The Non-Governmental Organization – Yaounde School of Citizenship and Politics (ECPY) is pleased to announce the holding of an outreach class on the theme “Youth and Peacebuilding in Cameroon” as part of the celebration of the International Day of Peace 2025 in Cameroon.
Cameroon, long considered a haven of peace in Central Africa, is today facing numerous challenges, real risks of breakdowns in peace that threaten its social cohesion. These include the crisis in the North-West and South-West regions, Boko Haram attacks in the Far North, and community conflicts of various kinds. All of this is exacerbated in this pre-electoral context with the abusive use of social media reinforcing hate speech and identity-based rhetoric, which could undermine the legitimacy of holding a presidential election. In this context, preserving peace is an absolute necessity for peaceful coexistence – a sine qua non condition for Cameroon’s full development.
Peace is a fundamental right and a basic requirement for access to education, health, security, and employment—especially for young people, who are both vulnerable and agents of change.
Peace is not limited to the absence of war; it is based on justice, dialogue, inclusion, and mutual respect. It must be built within families, schools, communities, and institutions, with the participation of all: authorities, civil society, women, youth…
Finally, peace is the foundation of sustainable development. Without it, no economic or social progress is possible. Preserving peace in Cameroon therefore means laying the foundations for a fairer, more united, and more responsible future for all.
Objective:
The outreach class organized by the Yaounde schoolof citizenship and politics aims to bring together young people from the ten regions of Cameroon to discuss, share, and learn about the challenges of peacebuilding in their communities and beyond.
